Adjusting Sprinkler Heads

Tired of running the neighborhood car wash from your lawn? See below. Spray heads throwing water into the street can be distracting as well as wasteful.  Adjusting your sprinkler heads is often as easy as turning it to the "right" direction.

If the water is running, do not stand directly over the head when you adjust it. The head could fly off and hit you.

Standard Spray Heads:

Check to see if the nozzle is tight.  Then, use a pair of pliers or similar tool to turn the head as described above.  The connections below are threaded and will usually allow you to turn the head enough to align it properly.  If your system is constructed with galvanized steel or copper be careful!   Too much force will cause the parts below the head too snap.  Then you really will need an expertSee our web page about repairing sprinkler heads.

Rotary Heads:

The nozzle in most gear driven rotary heads is supposed to turn so do not try to tighten the nozzle on these heads.  Adjust the head using the same procedure and caution described above.  If the head requires further adjustment, different manufacturers have employed various methods to accomplish this.  Generally, these settings require that you establish the limits of the arc by turning an adjustment screw, pushing a pin or moving the limit arms on an adjustment cam.  Additional information may be available at one of the manufacturer's web sites located on our Irrigation Industry Links page.

Contact Irrigation Partners for specific information about a head.  Please include the manufacturer and model of the head in your correspondence.
